Receive Child Support

ORS sends child support payments to custodial parents electronically.

You have two ways to receive those payments:

  • On a Utah Debit MasterCard®. This is the default way of receiving payments
  • By direct deposit to your bank account. You have to tell us if you want direct deposit. We charge no fees for direct deposit

Receiving payments electronically is fast, convenient, and secure. The law also requires us to send payments this way.  ORS only sends checks in very limited situations.

How Does Direct Deposit Differ from the Utah Debit MasterCard®?

Direct Deposit

Utah Debit MasterCard®

  • Payments are deposited in your bank account
  • Payments are deposited into a separate account used for your support payments
  • Access these funds the same ways you use any other money in your account
  • Access these funds by using your Utah Debit MasterCard® to make purchases or to withdraw cash anywhere that MasterCard® is accepted
  • A record of deposits will appear on your bank statement
  • Balance and account information is available 24 hours a day, every day
  • No additional fees
  • ATM withdrawals not made at MoneyPass ATMs are considered out-of-network transactions. Those carry an $0.85 fee. Some ATMs also add a surcharge of their own. Use MoneyPass ATMs to avoid the surcharge fee
  • If you do not use the card for 12 months after you activate it, the card company may charge a fee of $1.50 per month
  • ORS receives no money from any fees associated with these cards

Receiving Child Support and Cash Assistance Benefits

Custodial parents cannot get direct child support payments in the same month as Cash Assistance or Medical Assistance. In Utah, Cash Assistance may also be called TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) or FEP (Family Employment Program).
