ORS's primary mission is to promote responsibility.
We help ensure that parents are financially responsible for their children by providing child support services and support for children in care. We also work to help ensure public funds are used appropriately through the efforts of our Bureau of Medical Collections.
2020 STIMULUS PAYMENT UPDATES
Many of the COVID-19 Stimulus payments which were intercepted and sent to child support agencies nationwide are under review to potentially be taken back from the child support agencies. As a result, the federal Office of Child Support Enforcement has authorized that these payments remain on hold until the federal government is able to take back all of the payments they sent in error. Currently, OCSE has granted Stafford Act Waivers indicating these payments will be held until March 31, 2021.
ORS recognizes that this is an inconvenience to many clients; however, we must cooperate with the federal government to ensure that only appropriate payments are released to families.
NEW STIMULUS BILL
It is ORS's understanding that the new stimulus payments authorized by Congress at the end of December 2020 will not be intercepted by the federal government to be applied toward delinquent support debts.
